Derek the Dragon

Livestreamed Friday 3rd April 2020

Here are some activity ideas:

Play:

·  It’s going to be a regal day of play reigning again in our house! We’re going to dress in our most splendid clothes and be as fancy as we can be!

·  We’ll also have another regal dinner party and get out the table cloths, candles and pretty plates for one of our meals.

Arts and crafts:

·  Magic wand making! Gather any straws, twigs, and lollipop sticks, maybe make some cardboard stars and get decorating. You could wrap the sticks with ribbons, washi tape or twine – hours of fine motor skill development here.

·  I also LOVE the look of this dragon wooden spoon puppet craft, and I think it might be one both my girls can do successfully together, my youngest loves pegging stuff to string, so we might incorporate this into the activity and make it a peg dragon: https://www.activityvillage.co.uk/wooden-spoon-chinese-dragon-puppet

Music and listening:

·  Here’s the sad song of Puff the Magic Dragon… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7lmAc3LKWM

·  I’ve previously made a story podcast of this story! You can download from the Patreon page from this old post (make sure you’re signed into your account to access) at https://www.patreon.com/posts/27921363

Watching:

·  We’ve succumbed to Disney+ so we might watch a bit of Pete’s Dragon – either the 1977 animated version or the more recent live action version (which is FYI, a PG so not for younger or more sensitive kids!).

·  For littler people, what about Ben and Holly’s baby dragon episodes? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SNfLFEnLOc8

Reading:

·  Here are a great selection of kids dragon stories good for young readers - https://www.storyberries.com/category/dragons/

Active:

·  Baby Ballet dancing for the palace! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCA3j6aupL7vjhSr6VW6-R8Q

·  We’ve decided Friday regal balls are going to be a regular fixture at our house, so we’re going to end the day by getting out the disco speaker and doing our finest dance moves around the living room!

Educational (probably best for slightly older kids):

·  As ever, a search for ‘dragon’ on Twinkl will call up a lot of ideas, worksheets, colouring, printables and creative prompts!
